United States Senate elections, 2004

On 2 November 2004, the Senate was elected to the United States. The Republicans were able to expand their majority strong. The election was a part of the elections in the United States in 2004.

The 109th Congress of the United States began its work on January 4, 2005.

Starting position

In the Senate, each of the 50 states two deputies. Before the election, 51 senators Republicans, 48 Democrats and one independent. In 34 states, a senator in 2004, each newly elected (Class III ), the term of office of the remaining 66 senators ended in 2006 and 2008 respectively. Among the standing for election seats so far 19 were Democrats and 15 are held by Republicans. The Republicans were given six seats from the Democrats and had to give up two.
