United States Solicitor General
The United States Solicitor General ( German Attorney General of the United States ) is a federal official in the United States, which represents the federal government before the Supreme Court, if it is a party in a lawsuit. He also decides cases in which the federal government appeals brought against decisions and coordinates the representation of the Government before the appellate courts.
He is appointed by the U.S. President with the consent of the Senate and, after the Attorney General and his deputy one the third highest rank in the Ministry of Justice. In his appearances before the Supreme Court of the ( male ) incumbent (and its present ( male ) agents) is traditionally dressed in a cutaway. From March 2009 to August 2010 practiced with Elena Kagan, who was sworn in as Judge of the Supreme Court on August 7, 2010, the first woman from the office. Current incumbent is since June 9, 2011 Donald Verrilli.
