UNIVAC III

The UNIVAC III was delivered as a further development of the UNIVAC I and UNIVAC II in 1962. Although the UNIVAC III was compatible with their predecessors, the layout of the instruction set and the machine word width has been completely redesigned. This meant that existing programs had to be rewritten, which in turn caused many customers to change their hardware.

Since at this time the main memory caused the greatest cost, the UNIVAC III has been designed so that they had to use as little memory as possible.

Sperry Rand delivered from 1962 96 systems.
