Universal Music Group

The Universal Music Group (UMG ) is the largest of the three major label next to Sony Music and Warner Music Group. It has the world's largest share of the music market with 25.6% in 2005. It was created in 1995 from the acquisition of the Music Corporation of America ( MCA) by Seagram and the acquisition of PolyGram in 1998.

The business area is divided into four areas: Recorded Music, Music Publishing and Artist services and merchandising.

Universal Music Germany

Universal Music GmbH, the German subsidiary of Universal Music Group, Germany moved its seat in 2002 from Hamburg to Berlin. The Managing Director of Universal Music GmbH from 1 July 2004 Frank Briegmann. His predecessor, Tim Renner, had left the company in early 2004.
