The University Science Malaysia (USM ) ( Mal. Universiti Sains Malaysia) in Minden, a district of Gelugor in the state of Penang is a state university founded in 1969 in Malaysia. She was the second newly founded university in Malaysia and features a main campus in Minden, an engineering campus in Nibong Tebal the city for the technical departments and a Health Campus for medical subjects in Kubang Kerian in Kelantan state.
History
The university was founded in 1969 following a decision of the Penang State Legislative Council from the year 1962. The intention was to establish a University College in the state of Penang. The trial operation started under the name University of Penang with 57 students. As a campus first the Malayan Teachers Training College in Bukit Gelugor served. In 1971, the campus was completed in Minden. The campus was built on the site of a former British Barracks ( Minden Barracks ), which was named after the Battle of Minden.
Organization
The full-time management of the University is headed by the Vice-Chancellor. This is overseen by a Board of Directors. Unlike other universities in Malaysia is this not divided into faculties but in schools (English School):
