The 1499 first mentioned Tübingen University Library ( UB short Tübingen) is a central institution, founded in 1477, Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. The main building is located at Wilhelmstrasse 32

History

Building

The library was initially in 1534 spent Sapienzhaus, later housed in the Alte Aula and in Hohentübingen Castle. From 1912 could be used with the listed Bonatzbau today for the first time its own building. 1963, the extension was completed next to the Bonatzbau, which is now used as the main building. Also this were again asked extension building to the side, namely 1989 and 2002, the old wash bay Ammerbau.

As departmental libraries belong to the university library area library acre site, which is just like the Biology Library housed close to the natural science institutes on the morning spot. Other area libraries exist in the field of geology as well as on the castle ( for the subjects of archeology, Egyptology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies ).

Book inventory and Special Collections

1776, the UB had a stock of 15,000 titles. This increased to 60,000 in 1822, to 541,000 in 1912, to 1963, 1,204,000. 2004, there were 3,400,000 and 3,680,000 titles in 2010 already.

The UB Tübingen supervised several special collections as part of the special collections plan of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. The domestic and foreign literature of Subjects Theology, Religious Studies and Ancient Near East is collected with a high completeness. The special collections criminology is managed together with the Institute of Criminology at the University of Tübingen. In the field of theology and religious studies Tübingen University Library is also responsible for the Virtual Library of Theology and Religious Studies. Until 1997 or 2004, the Tübingen University Library was also responsible for the special collections Middle East and South Asia.

Equipment

The users are PC workstations and wired and wireless courses for their own notebooks. At the in-house PCs ( databases, journals, etc. ), not only can the internet in general but also to licensed by the UB offers are researched.

Statistical information

In 2008, funded with a budget of € 9,033,169 128 employees at 115.75 posts and 42 596 units of the media inventory. 1,447,688 times the library was personally visited by users. 339 468 persons were registered as active borrower, there were 792 491 loan operations. The UB put other libraries through interlibrary loan 80 563 media available. Conversely, they ordered 30 595 media for their own users.
