University of Alaska Southeast

The University of Alaska Southeast (also called UAS) was founded in 1972 and is a public, regional university in Juneau in the southeast of the U.S. state of Alaska. It is the smallest plant of the University of Alaska system. In addition to the main campus in Juneau, it maintains outdoor locations in Ketchikan and Sitka. The university offers several degree programs. In addition to the studies with final destination Bachelor, which take place locally at the University, there are several distance learning courses for adults. The UAS also sees itself as a research instrument of the indigenous peoples of Alaska. Together with the National Guard of Alaska operates the UAS a large sports forum in Juneau. The university is known for its recreational activities such as canoeing, sailing, fishing, hunting, hiking and skiing.
