The history of the university began on 19 January 1954, when a primary school was opened in Sibalom. The building was destroyed in 1956 by the typhoon Delta and the local authorities were unable to support the reconstruction. In charge of the district deputies Tobias Fornier prompted about the Republic Act 857 establishing the Antique School of Arts and Trades, so that government funds for reconstruction could be applied for. The former mayor of Santiago A. Sibalom Lotilla took up the initiative and made land available on which the buildings were erected. In the 1960s and 70s, the training programs of the school have been continuously expanded and the school was known at this time for their research on ceramic materials.

The next major step took place on 14 November 1982, when the school received the status of colleges and Polytechnic State College of Antique was called. In the 1990s, the two Satellitencampusse were founded in Hamtic and Tibiao through the acquisition of local educational institutions in the organizational structure of the college. After the 50th anniversary of the founding of the first school of college of university status was granted.
