Structural development

Due to the distribution of the FH Mainz on several widely dispersed sites throughout the city, a new building has been sought by the State of Rhineland -Palatinate for some time. For the summer semester of 2009, the Central Administration, the Department of Business, teaching unit Geoinformatics and Surveying, and the Institute for Spatial Information and Surveying Technology ( i3mainz ) have related the long- projected new building complex in the Lucy- Hillebrand -Strasse.

The new location (49 ° 59 '3 " N, 8 ° 13 ' 42" O49.9841666666678.2283333333333 ) lies far to the west of the city, separated from the Johannes Gutenberg University by Koblenzerstraße. In close proximity to a residential facility ( " K3 " ) is for 500 students. The sites wooden street and Wall Street will remain for now on. By 2014, scheduled to begin the second phase of construction in order to unite all locations of the FH Mainz to Koblenz road.

Overall, the new building of the University of Applied Sciences Mainz, is well received both by the students, as well as the teaching staff. However, there is also criticism. So comes the space program of the first phase of the 1990s. Even with today's students number of new construction phase is fully utilized. Gerhard Muth, who was elected in November 2006 as the new President of the University of Applied Sciences Mainz, therefore named the review of the second phase of construction as a focus of his tenure.

Criticism of the planned 2nd and 3rd phase of construction

In recent years there has been increasing criticism of the planning of a 2nd and 3rd phase of construction at the same location. This was originally planned to include all other departments, academic units and institutes of the university. The planned 1,600 sqm student jobs but were postponed to a possible third phase of construction without realizing appointment. The Department of Design explained that for him, a move to a second phase of construction, the doctrine can not be guaranteed without student jobs and he has a reduced second phase of construction preferred in this case only for the field of technology.

The department of art, which is equally affected by the move, such as the Department of Design, the move to the second phase is positive about. The faculty council, the elected body of professors, staff and students, has accompanied the construction always constructive criticism. The Faculty of Engineering is currently engaged in the teaching units, the authorized Architecture and Civil Engineering years ago and bring to today binding space program with the current requirements in line. Also, the Department of Business strongly supports the timely preparation of the next phase of construction, since there much needed student jobs can be realized.
