The University of Canterbury in Christchurch is considered the second oldest university in New Zealand. It was founded in 1873 under the name Canterbury College and renamed in 1933 in Canterbury University College. In 1957 another name Renamed the name still valid today.

In the year 2005 13.555 students were enrolled at the University (of which 2,453 international students). It employs 680 academic staff.

The university is organized into four colleges and a School:

  • College of Arts
  • College of Business and Economics
  • College of Engineering
  • College of Science
  • School of Law
