University of Madras

The University of Madras is a state university in Chennai (Madras ) in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Together with the University of Mumbai and University of Calcutta, she is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the Indian subcontinent. The University is spread over four sites in Chennai: Chepauk, Marina, Guindy and Taramani.
History
The University of Madras was founded in 1857 after the model of the University of London. In 2004, all engineering areas were transferred to Anna University.
