The University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa (German University of Mining and Technology) (short: UMAT ) is a university founded on 1 October 2001 in Tarkwa in the Western Region of Ghana. The UMAT was formed from the Faculty of Mining of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology ( KNUST ). It is the second youngest university in Ghana after the Ghana Telecom University College.

The UMAT is in their education towards a unique educational institution in West Africa, with its location close to a profitable gold deposit has important prerequisites. Already since 1982 the then members of the KNUST faculties that constitute the UMAT today are opened as teaching centers.

Faculties

The UMAT is divided into two faculties. The Faculty of Engineering is divided into the Department of Electronic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Dean of the Faculty is Elias Kwasi Asiam.

The Department of Natural Resources is divided into the departments of Geology, Mining, Minerals and Geomatics. Dean of the Faculty is Newton Amegbey.
