University of Northern Iowa

The University of Northern Iowa ( UNI ) is a state university in Cedar Falls. In spring 2005 12.500 students were enrolled at the university. The motto of the university reads Students First.

History

1876, the university was founded as the Iowa State Normal School. In 1909 she was renamed the Iowa State Teachers College. She carried this name until 1961. This year was chosen as the new name State College of Iowa. Its current name, the university since 1967.

Sports

The sports teams of the UNI call the Panthers. The University is a member of the Gateway Football Conference and the Missouri Valley Conference for basketball.
