The University of Patras (Greek Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών, panepistimio patron ) is the public university in the Greek port city of Patras. The University of Patras, with around 24,000 students, is the third largest university in Greece. Besides the University of the Peloponnese, this is the only university in the Peloponnese.

History

The University of Patras was founded in 1964, on 30 November 1966, the official opening ceremony. From 1968, the University moved to a new campus in Rio 1972 was completed with two buildings, the first phase ( now there are 25). 1974 took place a reform that promised full autonomy of the university. Thus, the University Senate is elected annually from representatives of the University, and not, as previously determined.

Campus

The campus is located in Rio (not far from the Rio - Antirrio bridge ) about 7 kilometers east of the city of Patras. This is a forest area of ​​about 600 acres on the slopes of Monte Panachaico with a view over the Gulf of Corinth ( and the Gulf of Patras ). The campus has many open spaces and is mainly planted with olive trees.
