University of Prešov

The Prešov University in Prešov, Slovak Prešovská univerzita v Prešove (short PU), is a public university in the Slovak town of Prešov.

The University was founded in 1996 by solving the former Prešov part Pavol Jozef Šafárik University with seat in Košice. Hence the unusual name.

The university is known, inter alia, because of their Germanic Institute, which is one of the most traditional of Slovakia. At this the nationwide Prešov short story competition is organized annually.
