The University of Sarajevo is one of the two universities of Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia - Herzegovina.

The University of Sarajevo was founded in 1949, individual faculties, however, insisted earlier (from 1940). In 1977, the Faculty of Islamic Theology was established. 2009 studied 40,300 people in the 23 faculties and colleges of the University, of which 27,400 regular students.

The University of Sarajevo has numerous international collaborations in Germany to Mannheim University (since 1971) and seven other universities.

The University is a member of the network of Balkan Universities ( Albania, Bosnia - Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Kosovo, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro).

The University is multiethnic aligned ( Bosniaks, Croats and Serbs ). In the situated in Republika Srpska suburb Lukavica the University of East Sarajevo was founded, which also sees himself in the tradition of the University of Sarajevo. There study about 10,000 people.
