The University of Seville (Spanish: Universidad de Sevilla), with 73,350 students ( 2004), one of the largest public universities in Spain and has its headquarters in the city of Seville in Andalucia.

History

The beginnings of the University of Seville go back to a convent school of the Jesuit order in the late 15th century. Opened in 1505 to give a papal bull of Pope Julius II degrees in theology, philosophy, law, medicine and fine arts. 1551 a so-called General Study Center ( Estudio General ) is set up and declared the university to the University of the City Council of Seville.

Since March 2002, the University of Seville, the entire data store for the Spanish-language Enciclopedia Libre.

The University of Seville, the Group today 5 institutions with a total of 122 departments.

The University has exchange agreements with, among others, the American University of Virginia 's College at Wise, Virginia ( since 2000).
