University of Texas at El Paso
The University of Texas at El Paso ( UTEP also called ) is a state university in El Paso in the U.S. state of Texas. It is part of the University of Texas System. At the University 20 154 (as of autumn 2007) are enrolled students. Some buildings of UTEP are decorated in Bhutanese architecture.
History
The UTEP was founded in 1914 as the Texas State School of Mines and Metallurgy, El Paso. In 1919, she was in U.T. Department of Mines and Metallurgy and renamed in 1920 in Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy. 1961, the first members of the U.S. Peace Corps were trained here. In 1967, the university its present name.

Students
Of the total of 20 154 students over 70 % are Hispanics. Thus, the university is the only research university in the U.S. with a majority " Hispanic " student body.
Sports
The sports teams of the UTEP Miners carry the name. The college was for 35 years a member of the Western Athletic Conference ( WAC) before moving to Conference USA in 2005.
