The Universum Bremen is an interactive science exhibition. Visitors are encouraged to try out most of the approximately 250 exhibits themselves.

History

The cornerstone of the Universum Bremen was laid in 1996 by professors at the University of Bremen. In Hamburg, a science center to be built with a truly experience nature. The project development for the project was held in collaboration with the University of Bremen with various companies in the Foundation universe GmbH.

In September 2000, the Universum Bremen opened near the University of Bremen. The permanent exhibition focuses on 4,000 m² with 3 topics - human expedition, Expedition Expedition Earth and cosmos.

The building, which is covered with 40,000 stainless steel scales and which is shaped like a mixture of whale and mussel, was designed by the Bremen architect Thomas Klumpp. The company Managementges universe. mbH operates the universe purely privately. In the first five years since its opening nearly 2.5 million visitors visited the Universum Bremen.

In the summer and autumn of 2007 the universe to an outdoor area, the Discovery Park was, and a building that SchauBox expanded. Since the opening of the new exhibition areas, the universe is only called " Universum Bremen ". The name " Science Center " now belongs only to the original building. Thus, there is in the universe Bremen now three independent exhibition areas, the Science Center, Discovery Park, and the SchauBox, in which there are annual special. First, an interactive chocolate show was shown. The second event exhibition launched on 28 February 2009 and deals with the creativity of nature. In contrast to the elliptical contours of the first building is the second cube-shaped and surrounded by a partially perforated Corten steel facade. The 5,000 m² Discovery Park is a scientific " adventure area " under the sky with lots of " hands-on stations," landscape elements and a 27 m high tower of the skies.
