The Unkel station, built in 1870, is a station on the Right Rhine line and the only station to the town of Unkel. The station has three platform tracks on two platforms. The regional transport is organized by the transport association Rhein-Sieg. In the station categorization (categories 1-7) Deutsche Bahn Train Station is classified in category 5.

History

After the left bank railway line was completed in 1858, work began on the construction of the right bank railway line from Beuel to Neuwied. Discussions there were some breakpoints there should be between Honnef and Linz. The places drake, Rheinbreitbach and Unkel wanted each a breakpoint of its own. The railway company originally wanted to grant a breakpoint. After protest the mayor and the district administrator first got Unkel and later drake his station.

The station was recognized in 1888 as a residential place of the community Unkel with 8 inhabitants.

In the summer of 2006, the station building was closed after the station café was abandoned. As a replacement for the divestments in waitable was built on the platform for the direction of Koblenz a weatherproof seat. On 1 March 2011 it came to lunch time in the former goods station building, a major fire. The station building was not affected by the fire.
