The community association Unkel is an administrative unit in the form of a local authority in the district of Neuwied, in Rhineland -Palatinate. In her four communities are united to perform their administrative business. The head office is located in the eponymous city Unkel.

The municipality was established on October 1, 1968 as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate administrative and territorial reform of the territorially congruent and existing since 1816 mayoralty Unkel (since 1927 " Official Unkel ").

The municipality is located east of the Rhine, directly on the border with North Rhine -Westphalia. It extends from the shores of the Middle Rhine in the west to the foothills of the Westerwald in the East and has share of the Rhein-Westerwald Nature Park.
