Unschooling

Unschooling is a form of informal learning. The term was coined by John Caldwell Holt.

Unschooling is led by the child learning in residential and living environment without trying to imitate the traditional school and its curriculum at home. There is therefore no scheduled classes or certain times of the day are prescribed for school related activities. Topics are covered, if the interest of the child requires it. The parents - or the persons with whom the child lives - are less teacher as a supporter and companion of learning processes.

Proponents of unschooling argue in various ways. Some complain about the inefficiency of learning at a school. Others argue that it is impermissible to force children or young people to do things that they do not want. Children have the same human rights as adults.

Critics counter that the Unschooling no level of education can be ensured. Such children had too few social contacts and were not sufficiently prepared for their future careers.

In Germany Unschooling is prohibited because of the force in all provinces compulsory education. In all English and many other countries in the Western Hemisphere, such as Switzerland and Austria home schooling ( homeschooling ) is at least permissible.
