Unspotted Saw-whet Owl

The Ridgwaykauz ( Aegolius ridgwayi ) is a species of the genus Aegolius that is exclusively in Central America, from southern Mexico to the south east of Costa Rica and western Panama, widespread.

The bird reaches a height 17 to 19 inches and resembles mainly the North American Saw Whet Owl ( Aegolius acadicus ). He is dark brown on the upper side and lower side pale brown, but differs from the Saw Whet Owl by the absence of eye-catching spots and stripes. Very little is known about the ecology and life history.

Controversial is the species status of Ridgwaykauz, there is also the possibility that it is a subspecies of Sägekauzes.
