Under Tauern is a municipality with 485 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of St. Johann im Pongau in Salzburg in Austria.

Geography

The municipality is located in Pongau in Salzburg on the north side of the Radstadt Tauern Pass, in the valley of Pongauer Taurach and consists of a single cadastral sub- Tauern. The village belonged until 2004 to the judicial district of Radstadt and since 1 January 2005, part of the judicial district of St. Johann im Pongau.

Districts are sub- Tauern and Obertauern, although a part of Obertauern also belongs to the municipality Tweng. Commission Regulation of 17 September 2009 Road and Wegbezeichnungen were introduced. Between the two districts of the Gnadenalm is a plateau in the Radstadt Tauern pass.

History

Under Tauern is an ancient settlement, which was a coaching inn on the important, existing in Roman times road over the Radstadt Tauern. The Lurrzerhof has already been demonstrated in the 14th century.

On 2 July 1911, the renowned Austrian painter Lucas Suppin saw in Untertauern the light of day. His father, Georg Suppin, was the village teacher at that time.

The municipality lies silver and copper mines were abandoned in 1910.

Tourism

The municipality owns a part of the other lifts. In the valley town of Untertauern year-round tourism is. On the Gnadenalm is located in the winter cross-country skiing, sleigh rides and a toboggan run.

Traffic

Through the community's Katschberg road B 99 leads from Radstadt on the Radstadt Tauern Pass (1738 m).
