Unterwachingen is a municipality in the Alb -Donau-Kreis in Baden- Württemberg.

Geographical Location

Unterwachingen lies on the southern edge of the Danube valley, about ten kilometers southwest of the city Ehingen (Donau), at 520 m altitude at Tobelbach, a small body of water that flows near Rottenacker into the Danube.

The 510-565 m high district covers 2.60 km ², of which 81 % of agricultural land and 15 % forest, which occupies the southern part of the township.

History

In the 805 mentioned in a document place a church was in 1103, on the occasion of the consecration of the chapel Emerkingen called. Unterwachingen and neighboring Emerkingen formed at that time politically and ecclesiastically a unit. From the 12th and 13th centuries, long -lasting dispute between the Premonstratensian Marchtal and the Lords of Emerkingen to the right of patronage was the monastery emerged victorious.
