Unto This Last

Unto This Last is a work of the English artist, writer and social theorist John Ruskin. It appeared in 1862 as a book publication of four journal articles, initially met with fierce criticism and was little read. Later it developed into one of the most influential socio-critical works and has been translated into many languages, including of Mahatma Gandhi in Gujarati, who also took over substantive suggestions.

In essence, Unto This Last is a critique of the " soi disant - science of political economy " ( Ruskin ) Smith and Millscher embossed with its elements of selfish utility maximization, the laissez-faire market principle and the accumulation of capital for its own sake. In contrast, Ruskin argues for a value, benefits and human orientation of economic activity.
