Upekkha

Upekkhā (S. upeksa ), equanimity, is a central concept of the Buddhist mind training. Upekkhā is both part of the Four Immeasurable ( Brahmavihara ), and the seven enlightenment factors ( Bojjhanga ).

Upekkhā is considered noble and karmically wholesome appearance in the groups of existence ( Khandha ), in the (sub ) group of mental formations ( sankhāra - kkhandha ). Upekkhā has the healing power to overcome the five obstacles ( nivarana ), in particular its direct enemy, the restlessness and excitement, caused by greed and anger; but also the indirect or near enemy, the equanimity deceptively similar translucent attitude of indifference.

By equanimity the fourth and highest depression ( Jhāna ) is achieved. Basis to achieve the higher powers of the mind and thus the way to arahatship
