Origin of the name
Was mentioned for the first time Upgant -Schott as Cuppargent in 945 in gift register of the monastery of Fulda. The name Upgant presumably refers to a small river named Gant, made over the course of several assumptions. So he can be ( a 1969 eingemeindeten place ) Coming over the Bollandswater west of Schottjer Grode in the Abelitz, a tributary of the Old Greetsieler Sieltiefs, flowed from Siegelsum; however, it can also come from the lying east of Upgant raised bog and be identical with the modern Upganter Zugschloot. This is suggested by the name Upgant ( ostfriesisch: up de Gant, German: on / over the Gant ). The Schott label is from the Low German scheten: her interpreted ( German throw ). The thrown out of a ditch earth lay as a kind of Wall on the edge and was formerly Schott.
