Úpohlavy

Úpohlavy ( German Opolau ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic.

Geography

It is situated in 175 m asl four kilometers southeast of the city Trebenice in the Bohemian Central Mountains and belongs to Okres Litoměřice. The village on the railway Lovosice - Louny is located on the right side of a river bend the Modla (Model ) on the Hasenburger panel.

History

Chodovlice was mentioned in 1227 in a directory owned by the monastery of St. George in Prague as Glupoglavi first time. Urn findings point to a prehistoric settlement.

Opolau belonged since the 18th century to the replacement of patrimonial rule for Tschischkowitz. 1880 opened in the village a Einklassenschule, until then the children were enrolled in school after Trebnitzgrund. From 1911 to the beginning of the dual-class school activities took place.

Attractions

In the village square, the Baroque Holy Trinity chapel with a bell tower. At the chapel a sundial, which is lit at night. Also located in Úpohlavy a monument to the fallen of the First World War.

Two kilometers west of the village, half way up the river is after Chodovlice at the Modla the Wiesenmuhle ( Lucký Mlýn ). Surrounded by mature trees mill is one of the few surviving mills on the river. The manorial mill of Zajíc of rabbit castle was sold in 1695 to Jan Šašek and has been owned by the family Šašek. The historic building complex was renovated around 2000.
