Upper Austrian state election, 2003

The state elections in Upper Austria 2003 was held on 28 September 2003, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP ) was able to maintain its leading position, posting an increase of 0.7%. With a vote share of 43.4 %, the ÖVP held their previous state mandate of 25 of the 56 seats. The Social Democratic Party of Austria ( SPÖ) could, however, improve its earnings from 1997 strong and also gained 11.3%. The SPÖ recorded with a vote share of 38.3 % their best result since 1979 and was also able to gain six seats. As a result, they turned 22 MPs in the Upper Austrian Landtag. With their profits, the SPÖ had benefited from the strong losses of the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ ), which had to suffer heavy defeats after participation in governments at the federal and state governments. In Upper Austria, the FPÖ lost 12.2% and lost an eight seats in the Landtag. With a vote share of 8.4 %, the FPÖ also recorded the worst result since 1985 and found only four MPs in the newly elected parliament. In addition, the FPÖ was in this election of the Greens - The Green Alternative obsolete ( GREEN ), won 3.3% and two seats. At 9.1 %, the Greens won it five mandates. The Communist Party of Austria ( KPO ), however, failed with 0.8 % clear on entry into the state parliament.
