Upper Guinea

Upper Guinea (French Haute- Guinée ) is one of four unofficial regions of Guinea. It lies in the east of the country, and consists mainly in savanna. It is similar to the official regions Faranah and Kankan.

The predominant ethnic group in Upper Guinea, the Malinke. Their language is lingua franca Upper Guinea, as it was already the lingua franca of the Kingdom of Samory Touré which existed in the 19th century. In Upper Guinea was the center of this empire.
