Upright row

Upright rowing is a strength exercise that is performed with a barbell or similar weight. Claimed, depending on grip width varying degrees, the Delta, Hooded, abdominal and back muscles. Upright rowing is a multi-joint exercise, since it takes several muscle groups at once.

Exercise Description

A barbell is gripped with a greater than or less than shoulder wide overhand grip ( pronated ) in front of the body with outstretched arms. Then the barbell is moved toward the chin or on the chin and then lowered again. Depending on the grip width the above muscles are trained to varying degrees.

Others

For some athletes, the upright rowing results in its classic form to shoulder injuries. As an alternative suitable in this case, the partial upright rowing where the barbell is held with a slightly wider than shoulder wide overhand grip and lifted only briefly about navel height. This variant provides in particular for an intense stress on the lateral shoulder muscles.
