Upson County, Georgia

The Upson County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Thomaston.

Geography

The County is located in west-central Georgia, is about 80 km from the border with Alabama and has an area of 849 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Lamar County, Monroe County, Crawford County, Taylor County, Talbot County, Meriwether County and Pike County.

History

Upson County was formed on December 15, 1824 59 County of Georgia from parts of Crawford County and Pike County. It was named after Stephen Upson, a well-known lawyers and politicians at that time.
