Upstream (networking)

In telecommunications and computer networks upstream describes the direction opposite to a prevailing flow of data from the source to the consumer. This is often the direction in which a request is addressed to a server. The term is commonly used both as a trend indicative adjective, as well as a share of the available bandwidth as a noun.

Complementary to this, downstream describes the opposite direction. See just there for use and frequent asymmetric connection technologies for connecting households and consumers.

The activity or process while this is uploading data flow, respectively the upload.
