Uptown Girl is a song by Billy Joel from 1983, which was written by him and produced by Phil Ramone. It appeared on the album An Innocent Man.

History

According to an interview with Channel 5 Joel wrote this song about his former relationship with model Elle Macpherson, which came to an end by his future wife Christie Brinkley. Joel gave in this interview also stated that the song was to be understood also as a tribute to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. In Song Joel sings about an encounter of a Downtown Man, with its Uptown Girl.

The publication took place on 29 September 1983. In the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, the title became a number -one hit.

Music Video

At the beginning of the music video drives a tow truck to a repair shop, the boss of the operation, watches TV and goes to his workers. Then Billy Joel and all the staff show a choreography. Following a customer moves to the workshop, representing the Uptown Girl in the video, later the choreography continues. At the end of the clip all leave the workshop. The customer in the video was played by Christie Brinkley.
