Urachus

The urachus or Urharngang is an elongated structure in the embryo, which extends from the apex of the bladder until later in the umbilical cord into it. It comprises a cavity (lumen). The urachus is outside of the peritoneum in the abdominal wall and can be referred to as quasi rest of Allantoisgangs, which arises because in the further course of development of the embryo one sprout and embryonic vessels in the umbilical cord.

As a rule, before the end of the fetal period, the urachus closes median umbilical ligament ( " Urachusstrang " ), referred to in veterinary medicine as " Urachusnabel " or " Urachusnarbe ". In adult humans there is the obliterated urachus in the median umbilical fold again.
