History

The development of the URAL is based on a project from the beginning of the 1950s. The Red Army then called for a truck high off-road capabilities. The mid- '50s, the project was picked up again and since the development was completed, the prototype NAMI 020 in 1956 has already been tested. After this was successful, the truck was in 1961 transferred to the production.

The first vehicles (URAL 375) still had an all-weather canopy from removable canvas. Later, this was replaced by a welded all-steel cab ( URAL 375A / 375D ). As a V8 engine 4-stroke gasoline engine was used with an output of about 132 kW (180 hp). In the NVA ( National People's Army ), the engines were throttled to a maximum output of 128 kW (175 hp). The engine has been optimized for maximum speed elasticity and consumed on the road about 45 liters per 100 km at a constant speed of 60 km / h In the grounds of the consumption can rise to approximately twice that being down here with reduction, higher speeds and lower gears. The URAL 375D reached the maximum payload a maximum speed of 75 km / h

From the outset, all civil Ural were equipped for use in Siberia and other remote regions exclusively with orange painted cabs to locate vehicles from the air better. This was vital for breakdowns or accidents far from civilization.

The 375D models and 4320 for many years have been built in parallel - especially in areas with predominantly very low temperatures provides the gasoline engine has some advantages over the diesel engine.
