Urbach, Rhineland-Palatinate

Urbach is a municipality in the district of Neuwied in the north of Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality powder stream.

Geography

The town is located southwest of powder stream in the Rhein-Westerwald Nature Park. Urbach consists of the two districts Urbach - Kirchdorf and Urbach- village. Until the formation of the church of Urbach on June 7, 1969, these districts were independent communities. Between the two districts flows east to Wood Creek draining Urbach - Kirchdorf stream that is dammed here in a pond. The municipal territory, the northern and central portion is occupied by the Urbach forest ranges in the southwest to Märker forest. There it reaches 210 m above sea level. NN its deepest point on the ground, while the highest point on the ground to approximately 400 m above sea level. History

From the suffix "- bach " in the name can be assumed that Urbach was in time, based upon the migration of peoples, probably the end of the 6th century.

The oldest written mention dates from 1204, when the General Chapter of the Premonstratensian order in an arbitration governed the powers of the abbeys and Rommersdorf Sayn. Dierdorf and Urbach were assigned Rommersdorf.

When the first church was built is not known. The oldest part of the present church is the church tower. The design of the tower suggests that this was built in the late 12th century. In a document from 1204, Urbach called as a branch of Dierdorfer parish church ( since the mid-16th century, the Protestant church). Beginning of the 19th century nave and chancel of the church dilapidated. After a plan of the building inspector Ferdinand mist from Koblenz today octagonal nave was rebuilt in the years 1825-1830.

As the high court Urbach was first mentioned in 1323. According to this document, the high court " High Veste Urbach " was built by the Counts of Wied. The court site was located "in the village under the linden intgen the churchyard ." As to the court days, more and many people came together here also developed a market.

In the year 1366 a castle Grebeneck is mentioned in Urbach. The information on this are sparse, precise statements have not been possible.

Of particular importance for the parish Urbach had the Urbacher Märker forest. To this forest it came in 1716, a legal dispute with the Count of Wied, who was first settled in 1793 by Prince Karl zu Wied in a comparison. Therein the Parish belonging to places and the beneficial owner listed: Urbach - Kirchdorf ( 21 Märker ), Urbach- village (22 ), Dernbach (21 ), left Bach ( 17) Harschbach (16) and Niederhofen (8).

A first school in Urbach, there were already around the year 1600. At school-age children there were in the parish total of 42, of which 12 are from Urbach ( Kirchdorf ), 9 from Überdorf, 5 from left Bach, 4 from Harschbach, 3 from Niederhofen and 9 from Dernbach Bach and stones. In what form and to what extent the lessons took place, is not known. In 1700, or shortly thereafter, a school house was built. The school was situated next to the church at the northern entrance to the cemetery. Since the second half of the 18th century, the classes took place not only in the winter months, but also in the rest of the year. The school itself was irregular, under penalty was a " failure due Schweinehütens " and the like are no longer admissible. In 1797 were reported as the subject matter: " singing, prayer, reading and spelling, writing, arithmetic and natural phenomena ".

The nearest motorway junction is Dierdorf on the A3 direction Frankfurt / Main and Junction Neuwied direction of Cologne. The nearest railway station is ICE Montabaur at the high-speed line Cologne-Rhine/Main.

Clubs

In 1920, the TSG Urbach Dernbach was founded. The association is now almost 1,000 members, making it one of the largest clubs in the region. TSC offers its members in the departments gymnastics, table tennis and football a lot of possibilities for sport activities. Starting with the parent- child gymnastics to seniors gymnastics club offers a wide range of sporting activities.
