Urban Adult Contemporary

Urban Adult Contemporary (Urban AC) is a format for radio stations, which is mainly distributed in the U.S.. The music selection is limited to R & B and Black Music of the 1980s until today. It is aimed at the target group of 25 - to 54 - year-old and was founded in 1988 by the U.S. American radio producer Barry Mayo developed.

Due to the older target group news and current events have a higher priority in the program. In the evenings, many Urban AC stations playing smooth jazz and other quiet music pieces from the black music. Numerous stations implement in their slogan the played music styles, such as " Today's R & B and Classic Soul ", " The Adult Mix", "Smooth R & B and Classic Old Skool ".

The Urban AC format is a subformat the adult contemporary radio format. The younger version of the Urban AC format is known as Urban Contemporary.

WBLS in New York is considered the flagship of the Urban AC format and was one of the first stops, the Urban AC introduced in 1994.
