Urban Symphony

Urban Symphony is an Estonian band that combined folk with electronic pop music. She represented Estonia in the Euro Vision Song Contest 2009 in Moscow with the song Rändajad ( German "nomads" ).

History

The musician and singer Sandra Nurmsalu had concentrated in her career to date on classical music and Estonian folklore. A ten- year training as a violinist and multi-year memberships in the folk bands Pillipiigad and Virre marked their career.

In the fall of 2007, she participated in the Estonian talent show Kaks tactical ette. Solving the tasks of the show is one that the participants form their own bands, they produce and import with them pieces. These took Nurmsalu man Halstein and Johanna defects in the project. Defects had already gained experience in various Estonian rock bands ( Aides, Slide -Fifty and Vennaskond ). After the expiry of the show, she decided to continue the band and still took Mari Möldre on as an additional member. The Estonian producer Sven Lõhmus invited them to working together and brought them finally to participate in the Euro Vision Song Contest 2009.

In the Estonian national decider Eesti Laul 2009 on March 7, 2009 in Tallinn, the group was able to beat nine other competitors. In the ESC finals, the band finished the victory of the Norwegian Alexander Rybak sixth place.

On the song Rändajad followed in 2009 still Päikese poole ( German " Towards the Sun " ) and 2010 Scorpio. All three pieces are composed by Sven Lõhmus, previously only available as a digital download except Rändajad.
