Urbana is a city and county seat of Champaign County in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2000 Urbana had 36 395 inhabitants; up to the 2009 estimate, the population had risen to 39,985.
Urbana, together with the neighboring city of Champaign Home to the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign. The Mayor Laurel Prussing, was elected in 2004 as the successor of death Satterthwaite for a term of four years. The city has a strong majority for Democrats in most elections, favored by the influence of the university.
Geography and transport
Urbana is located at 40 ° 06'35 " north latitude and 88 ° 12'15 " west longitude and extending 30.3 km ².
