Urbeis

Urbeis is a commune of 308 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district Sélestat - Erstein, for Canton Villé and community association Canton de Villé.

Geography

Urbeis located in the southwest of the department of Bas- Rhin at the headwaters of Giessen in the Vosges. The Urbeis surrounding elevations are the Crètes of Aviats (804 m ) in the south, the Arête you Bilstein (670 m ) in the north and the Climont ( 965 m) in the northwest. To Urbeis include the districts Climont le, le Haut d' Urbeis and le Bas d' Urbeis.

The 602 m high Col d' Urbeis, a pass over the Vosges mountains main ridge leads, west of Urbeis in the Valley of the fave on the territory of the department of Vosges in Lorraine.

Neighboring communities of Urbeis are platforms in the North, and Lalaye Fouchy in the east, Rombach- le-Franc in the southeast, Lubine in the west and Bourg- rupture and Ranrupt in the northwest.

History

In Urbeis archaeological research has been conducted. The place was called, along with the Bilstein in 1303 Habsburg land register.
