Urcerey

Urcerey is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Urcerey is located on 369 m above the sea, about five kilometers southwest of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the Burgundy gate, in a wide opening to the west of the valley Douce (tributary of Savoureuse ) at the eastern foot of the Bois du Mont

The area of ​​3.39 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The central part of the area is traversed in a northwest-southeast direction from a valley that opens onto the broad valley of the Douce. It is used as arable and meadow land for agricultural purposes. North of this valley extends the communal land on the ridge of the Côte ( to 440 m). West of the village rises the broad back of the Bois du Mont, which is predominantly forested and in the 463 m, the highest elevation of Urcerey is achieved.

Neighboring communities of Urcerey are Essert in the north, and Bavilliers Argiésans in the east, the south and Banvillars Échenans and Buc in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Urcerey in 1196 under the name Visceri. From 1347 the name Urcerey is preserved. At the time of its first occurrence Urcerey was under the dairy Bas- Rosemont, which belonged to the rule Rosemont. First, standing in the sphere of influence of the Lords of Montbeliard, Urcerey reached the mid 14th century under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. Together with the Sundgau came the village with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793 Urcerey belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France.

Attractions

Urcerey has a Lavoir 1880. The old town is characterized by different farmhouses in the traditional style of the Franche -Comté from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Population

With 209 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Urcerey one of the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​110-130 people, a strong population growth was recorded from 1968 to 1990. Since then, a slight downward trend was observed again.

Economy and infrastructure

Urcerey was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village.
