Urfahr-Umgebung District

The district Urfahr environment, in terms of area one of the midsize districts in Upper Austria, extending north from Linz to the Czech border, is according to the classification of the quarters in the Upper Austria. Office of the District Commission is Linz- Urfahr, one north of the Danube -city suburb of Linz. Thus Urfahr is one of the few districts of Austria, which are not directly named after a district capital or statutory city. This has historical reasons: The district Urfahr in 1903 by area partitions of Freistadt (district court district Leonfelden ) and Linz-Land (district court district Ottenheim and Urfahr ) formed. At that time Urfahr was still an independent city, but in 1919 was incorporated into Urfahr Linz. The district, which had thus lost his capital, was renamed Urfahr. On 1 January 1958, the District Court Ottenheim was dissolved and integrated into the BG Urfahr. On January 1, 2013, the District Court Leonfelden was dissolved and divided communities on the district the district courts Freistadt and Rohrbach. Since then, consists in the district no longer a District Court for the District and three district courts have jurisdiction whose seats are located in three different political districts.

Today, the formerly almost exclusively agriculturally dominated district Urfahr is one of the fastest growing districts in Austria due to the sought after residential location in the proximity area of the City of Linz. There is almost no industry, the majority of the population commutes to Linz.
