Urge Overkill

Urge Overkill is an American rock band that was formed in 1986 in Chicago.

Band History

The band was formed in 1986 by guitarist and bassist Eddie " King" Roeser, singer Nash Kato and drummer Jack "The Jaguar " Watt in Chicago. The name derives from the band was a song of the American funk band Parliament. Still in its first year, the band released their first EP Strange, I .... It was produced by Steve Albini, Nash's roommate and head of the influential noise rock band Big Black.

1989 saw the debut album Jesus Urge Superstar, again produced by Albini and as already the EP a typical noise-rock album. A drastic change of style represented the 1990 album released episode Ameri Cruiser on which the style of the band shifted to something that has been described by the band as a mix of arena rock and punk.

Despite the commercial success, the band remained true to its alternative style with the published 1995 album Exit the Dragon. The album and the single release The Break flopped, and the subsequent tour had to be canceled due to lack of public interest ahead of time.
