Uricosuric
Uricosuric agents are drugs that increase the renal excretion of uric acid.
Agents
Probenecid, benzbromarone or Isobromindion are uricosuric agents. Medications containing the active ingredient sulfinpyrazone are not commercially available.
Mechanism of Action
Uricosuric agents inhibit tubular brush border membrane of the renal tubules at the Harnsäurerückresorption. Point of action of uricosuric agents, the uric acid anion exchange protein URAT1.
Side effects
Side effects can be a crystallization of uric acid in the urine, an acute attack of gout at baseline or gastrointestinal complaints.
Indication
The medication is indicated for hyperuricemia without renal involvement.
Contraindications
The drug should not be used in renal impairment. Prior to use in kidney stones is strongly warned ( Cave ).
