Uriel Jones

Uriel Jones (* June 13, 1934, † March 24, 2009 in Dearborn, Michigan ) was an American musician. In the 1960s and 1970s, he was the drummer of The Funk Brothers.

Life

Jones was originally hired by Motown as a substitute for the drummer Benny Benjamin and took over his position together with Richard Allen, as Benjamin's health declined. Jones drumming was characterized by its sound that came over especially in songs such as Is not No Mountain High Enough or I Heard It Through the Grapevine. For Motown Jones Equipment used by companies like Ludwig, Slingerland and Gretsch. A larger number of people Jones is best known for the documentary film Standing in the Shadows of Motown.

He died at the age of 74 at the Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center in Dearborn from complications following a heart attack.
