Urinetown (English Original title: Urinetown ) is a musical. Music and lyrics by Mark Hollman come, the book on this and additional lyrics written Greg Kotis. The premiere took place on 1 April 2001 at the American Theatre of Actors ( Chernuchin Theatre ), an off- Broadway stage, instead. Then the piece moved to the Henry Miller's Theatre, where the official premiere took place on 20 September 2001 ( the theater has 950 seats and is thus one of the smallest Broadway theaters ). With 965 performances Urinetown ran until 18 January 2004 for more than two years. The Musical ranking it the longest term in the history of this theater. Urinetown won three Tony Awards, including for Best Original Music.

The German -language premiere was on 7 October 2004 in Castle Park Theater, Berlin. The German song texts by Wolfgang Adenberg, the German dialogues of Ruth Deny.

The first English-language production in Europe was held in February 2006 at the Kelley Theatre, Stuttgart -Möhringen instead. The production took a record- pregnant twelve times in a row won first place at the European Tournament of Plays.

Action

At some point in the future after a severe drought disaster. To such scenarios, however, to prevent the near future, private toilets are banned and the only legal by the operator GmbHarn & loo KG are very expensive. Who makes easy in the bushes, is exiled to Urinetown - a fabled place from which no one returns more. But a crowd of insurgents defend themselves against these conditions. It will enable them to regain their right to free exit.

Others

The premiere was originally scheduled for September 13, 2001 but had to be postponed due to the events of September 11.

With the German premiere the Schlossparktheater in Berlin was reopened after years.
