Urla is a Turkish district town with 42 559 inhabitants in the province of Izmir in western Turkey.

It is located 38 km away from Izmir on the road to Çeşme. At Urla include several neighborhoods and 12 smaller islands in the Bay of Urla. The largest island is Uzunada. The districts Urla Iskelesi (4 km from the center ), and Zeytinalanı Çeşmealtı (6 km from the center ) are located directly by the sea. The bays of Menteş, Gülbahce and Balıklıova are visited by seeking relaxation from Izmir to swim.

History

The place gained in antiquity through its growing importance. In the ionic land located Klazomenai and Limontepe. There was found in excavations and sculptures of cultural history, which are now exhibited in the Louvre, in the National Museum of Athens and the Archaeological Museum of Izmir.

Personalities

From the place comes the Greek Nobel laureates Giorgos Seferis. Turkish novelist Necati Cumalı also grew up in Urla.
