Uronarti

Uronarti ( ancient Egyptian: Chesef - Iuntiu ) is a fortification of Ancient Egypt in Nubia and is located on the territory of present-day Sudan. It is located about four kilometers north of Semna.

Location and construction

The ruins of the facility located on an island just above the 2nd Nile cataract southwest of Wadi Halfa. They remained in accumulated Nubia Lake. The fort consisted of a main body with various barracks, administrative buildings, a temple, storage facilities and strong almost ten meters thick walls. In the east there is a wing which is almost 200 meters long and only a wall with bastions. This wing was parallel to the Nile. To the west, outside the facility, some other structures, but they are not well received were. Within the fort there were many seal impressions that occupy extensive administrative activities.

Approximately 600 meters southwest of the fort was finally excavated an exact north- south oriented building complex, which is eventually negotiated a palace.

History

Uronarti Pharaoh Sesostris III was. ( 1878-1842/1840 BC) built. The temple was built during the New Kingdom in sandstone.
